Event details

Abstract:

In the dynamic realm of Air Traffic Management (ATM), maintaining seamless operations during unforeseen disruptions is crucial. This presentation explores the concept of resilience within ATM, focusing on the development of effective fallback scenarios and preparedness strategies. Central to this discussion is the need for adaptable, independent, and agile ATM solutions designed to address these challenges.

Key points:

Challenges in ATM resilience:
System failures: technical malfunctions can lead to significant operational disruptions.
Emerging airspace users: the integration of drones and other new entrants poses coordination challenges.
Environmental factors: weather anomalies and natural events can impact air traffic flow.
Addressing these challenges:
Adaptability: the central role of a simple, yet proficient Air Situation Display that features key element such as track, plot, and weather processing, along with a role-based user interface tailored to specific operational needs.
Independence: such a solution should be designed as a fully independent ATM solution, to serve as a reliable primary, fallback, or contingency system, ensuring continuous operations even during disruptions.
Agility: a robust system design shall serve seamless integration and customization to meet specific operational procedures.
Implementing preparedness strategies:
Customizable training modules: ensuring that airspace operators are well-prepared to handle emergencies through tailored training programs.
Real-time monitoring and control: providing interfaces for system supervisors to manage and adapt the system in real-time, enhancing situational awareness and response capabilities.

By focusing on these areas, this presentation aims to provide insights into building a more resilient ATM system capable of withstanding and swiftly recovering from disruptions, ensuring the safety and efficiency of global air traffic.
